PREFACE
This Volume of Inscriptions titled ‘Inscriptions of Ceylon, Volume VII’ contains 30 Inscriptions belonging to the historical periods of Dañadeniya, Kuruņägala and Gampola, covering the 13″ and the 14″ centuries. It consists the texts, transcripts and the translations of those records. It thus comprises almost all the Sinhala Inscriptions belonging to the Dambadeniya, Kuruņägala and Gampoļa periods of Ceylon history, covering the regnal periods of Kings Parākramabāhu II (1236-1270), Parākramabāhu IV (1302- 1326), Vijayabāhu V (1335- 1341), Bhuvanaikabāhu IV (1341-1351), Parākramabāhu V (1344-1359), Vikramabāhu III (1357-1374) and Bhuvanekabāhu V.
Most of the epigraphs included in this Volume had previously been edited and published by Professor S. Paranavitana, Messrs. H. W.Codrington, CCS, Mr. H.C.P. Bell, the first Archaeological Commissioner, and Simon De Silva, Gate Mudaliyar. However, the present author has re-examined all those inscriptions and he was able to amend and improve the reading and interpretations of some of those records.
