This report is prepared by then Director -General of the Department of Archaeology of Sri Lanka named S.U. Deraniyagala, both nationally and internationally recognized scholar in the field of archaeology. The book  is comprised of  administration and financial details of the department. Additionally, it includes information on architectural conservation, chemical conservation, exploration and documentation, epigraph and numismatics  studies,  museum activities and common services carried out by the Department of archaeology and the archaeological development activities carried out by the Central Cultural Fund in Cultural Triangle Area  during the period of 1998
